Zichron Yaakov sits between Tel Aviv and Haifa, on the slope of Mt. Carmel, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. This is a place that time seems to have skipped over, and a visit there takes you back in time to a previous century.
The paved pedestrian street has galleries, shops and cafés along both sides.
The courtyards that branch off from the street, however, are where the real gems of Zichron are hidden.
One of these is the courtyard of the Shapira family’s antique farm, which has been converted into an inn and the Smadar winery.
The boutique hotel has romantic suites with curtains that cascade to the floor, rustic wooden furniture, lace bedcovers and a private balcony.
The garden has a heated swimming pool, quiet seating areas, olive, pecan and oak trees and herbs growing in the flower beds.
