The Birka

A small spring on the mountainside was the first water source found by the settlers of Zichron Yaakov. It sprung from an antique well with stone arches, It was called “Bir el Hanzir” by the Arabs who lived in the area. The immigrant families were religious and they needed a Mikveh ritual bath. The Mikveh is located in a small stone building and its purity immersion water originate from the spring. They built it further away from Zamarin hill, next to the water source.

The Benjamin Pool

Built by the generous Baron Benjamin Edmond de Rothschild This water installation was the first of its kind in Israel, and used a newly developed pump to bring water up to the village on the hilltop. Built in 1891, it was considered wondrous for both its advanced engineering and architectural beauty. A 12-horsepower steam engine brought water up from the well below, through underground pipes.‏
The water was then piped, using gravity, to public drinking fountains and the reflection pool in the center of the moshava farming village. The steam-powered pump marked the beginning of a new era in this country.

The Wine Route

The Wine Route is Zichron Yaakov’s famous pedestrian street Ha-Meyasdim St. In this century-old street that has been preserved, there are many charming spots, boutique stores, artist galleries, coffee shops and restaurants. The houses that face the street were once home to the founding families, the first settlers. Each of the quaint courtyards behind the houses was once a farmyard, with chickens running about. The farmers courtyards, which branch off from the main street, offer many pleasant surprises.

Ohel Yaarkov Synagogue

One of Israel’s most beautiful synagogues. It was established in 1886, sponsored by the Baron Edmond James de Rothschild, and was named Ohel Yaakov after the Baron’s father. Tiyul Garden

The garden in the moshava farming village was planted by Baron Rothschild’s clerks, starting in 1886. The gardener began by planting trees around his house, and gradually increased the area of the garden, planting trees, shrubs and flower beds. An ornamental pool was dug in the center of the garden, and gold fish were brought to beautify it. With the baron’s encouragement, the garden was expanded further and opened to the settlers for their relaxation and pleasure.

Old Zichron The site originally settled by the founders of Zichron Yaakov, in December of 1882. The land on Zamarin Hill was purchased from a Christian Arab who was the deputy to the French consul in Haifa. My name is Tsippi and I live in a house-gallery facing the delightful pedestrian street in Zichron Yaakov. I built my house on the ruins of a cave that was used by the Aharonson family for watering their horses. In the cave I found scraps of newspaper articles from over 100 years ago, which I incorporated into my artwork. I am an artist who creates with mixed media, based on paper. I became an artist after a long and winding journey, after years of working in the chemistry and physics fields, and after earning a degree in art therapy.

The houses that face the street were once home to the founding families, the first settlers. Each of the quaint courtyards behind the houses was once a farmyard, with chickens running about. The farmers courtyards, which branch off from the main street, offer many pleasant surprises.

Nahsholim beach, like the other beaches in the area, is a wonderful combination of bays, little islands, and shallow pools. Enjoy the nature reserve, antiquities, seasonal blooms, and birds, including flamingos who come by to enjoy the nearby fish-farming ponds. The beach is neat and clean, at a short driving distance from Zichron Yaakov.‏
Take a picnic basket, and go to the beach to watch the bewitching sunset.

The visitors center at Tishbi Winery holds tours followed by wine-tasting and Valrhona chocolates, and offers jeep tours of the vineyards. The wine shop sells a wide variety of Tishbi wines, homemade jam, chocolates, olive oil and candied fruit. Bakery and kosher dairy gourmet restaurant.

Dor Habonim Nature Reserve

This nature reserve has many charming coves where you can spend romantic moments or have a family picnic and watch the sunset. Enjoy some of the most beautiful and picturesque strips of beach in Israel, clear water, amazing coral beds, Seashell Cove, rock pools and a tiny island with the remains of a sunken ship. Discover the blue cave, an enchanting cave whose waters are an amazing shade of blue. Easy hiking trail.

I built my house on the ruins of a cave that was used by the Aharonson family for watering their horses. In the cave I found scraps of newspaper articles from over 100 years ago, which I incorporated into my artwork. I am an artist who creates with mixed media, based on paper. I became an artist after a long and winding journey, after years of working in the chemistry and physics fields, and after earning a degree in art therapy.

My name is Tsippi and I live in a house-gallery facing the delightful pedestrian street in Zichron Yaakov. I built my house on the ruins of a cave that was used by the Aharonson family for watering their horses. In the cave I found scraps of newspaper articles from over 100 years ago, which I incorporated into my artwork. I am an artist who creates with mixed media, based on paper. I became an artist after a long and winding journey, after years of working in the chemistry and physics fields, and after earning a degree in art therapy.
